You can make a difference by learning what and how to recycle. County employees sort recyclables by hand, so your actions will not only make their job easier but also help the County recover more money. By recycling you can keep solid waste costs under control and keep Clay County beautiful.

Recycle These Items Free:

  • Plastic Bottles, 1’s & 2’s only – The # is usually within a triangle on the bottom, or near the bottom of the container. For example, most soft drink and water bottles are #1’s. Milk and laundry soap jugs are usually #2’s.

  • Aluminum cans

  • Corrugated Cardboard

  • Scrap Metal, including appliances such as dish washers, washing machines and ovens (nothing with freon!!)

  • Mixed Paper, including newspapers, magazines, junk mail and cereal boxes. If its paper and not corrugated it goes in this category.

  • Motor Oil

  • Antifreeze

  • Car batteries

If you would like to recycle a refrigerator or anything with Freon, there is no charge for this.

How You Can Help:

  • Rinse all containers

  • Remove lids from plastic bottles

  • Place recyclables loose in the bins (e.g., not in bags)

  • You do not have to remove any labels.

  • Do not put soiled items such as paper towels, paper plates, or napkins in the recycling bins

  • Break down corrugated boxes if possible

Not Recyclable:

  • Plastics with the numbers 3-9, such as yogurt or margarine containers

  • Glass bottles – recycling glass bottles is not feasible at present because of our location, shipping costs, minimum load requirements, current and historical selling prices, infrastructure costs, labor costs, fuel costs, etc. We continue to monitor current pricing, however, and if this changes, we will post this on this page and at the Transfer Station.

Not Accepted:

Ask at the Transfer Station about how to dispose of these properly:

  • Old cars, boats and trailers

  • Gasoline

  • Insecticides

  • Liquid Latex and Oil Paint

  • Medical Waste

  • Fluorescent Light Ballasts
