Overview

Clay County is seeking a qualified and experienced Building Code Inspector Ill to perform technical inspection and code enforcement work involving residential and commercial buildings and properties throughout Clay County and participating municipalities.


The Building Code Inspector Ill is responsible for ensuring that construction and development activities comply with applicable North Carolina State Building Codes, fire codes, local ordinances, and other applicable regulations. This position plays an important role in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of citizens, property owners, contractors, and businesses within the County and Town jurisdictions.


Work involves conducting inspections of residential and commercial construction projects, performing site inspections, reviewing construction at all stages, interpreting applicable building codes, issuing and maintaining building permits, maintaining inspection records, and responding to questions from property owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and the general public.


This position also performs fire inspections and assists with fire and life-safety code compliance.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must possess or be able to obtain and maintain the applicable North Carolina Level III Standard Inspector certifications. Preference will be given to applicants holding Level III Standard certifications in:

  • Building

  • Plumbing

  • Mechanical

  • Electrical

Fire inspection certification and/or experience performing fire inspections is highly desirable. Certification requirements are subject to applicable North Carolina laws, regulations, and certification standards governing Code Enforcement Officials.
